BRATTLEBORO -- On Monday through Wednesday, all girls trying out for Colonels basketball will practice from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
"We will be young and inexperienced, but I see a lot of passion in the kids," said Brattleboro varsity girls basketball coach Paul Freed. "I am very excited to begin the journey with them."
Boys JV tryouts will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by boys varsity tryouts from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. Practices will continue on Thursday and Friday that week with times to be announced. After the JV and varsity teams are determined, JV boys basketball tryouts will begin on Monday, Dec. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the BAMS gym.
Putting on the gloves
BRATTLEBORO -- Vermont Golden Gloves will begin Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 and continue the following two Saturdays:
Jan. 26 and Feb. 2. The tournament will take place at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington.
The tournament features two divisions of boxers: novice class for athletes with ten bouts or less and open class for fighters who have more than ten bouts in their experience.
The novice class champions advance to the New England Novice Championships in Lowell, MA on Feb. 12 and 15. Open class champions advance to the New England Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions also in Lowell on Feb. 19 and 20.
The National Golden Gloves Championships will be held May 14-18 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
Entry forms will be available early next month. Anyone, male or female, between the age of 17 and 34 years of age are eligible to participate. 16-year-olds may participate providing he or she turns 17 years of age by August, 2013. For more information,
