BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro men’s basketball league began Wednesday. DMI took on Deerhill Inn/Fat City Motor Worx and beat them 99-56. Adam Newton led the way scoring 22 points (including a trio of three-pointers) for his DMI team. Seth Deyo finished with 19, Marshall Gilbert had 17, and manager Ryan Powers scored 15 points to wrap up the top-scorers for DMI.
Josh Bartholomew also splashed some shots from the top of the arc to lead his Deerhill Inn / Fat City crew with 15 points on the evening. Nate Gleason managed 13 points, and Paul Trudeau finished with 11.
In game 2 played Wednesday, Brattleboro Subaru Ford took it to The Marina, 86-62, with BSF’s Devon Manning scoring a massive 29 points.
Teammate Shane Spive wrapped up his night not far behind with 23 points, Luke Euphrat hit five threes for 15, and Joe Borgoti, Joe Motika, and Jeff Anderson each tallied four points for Brattleboro Subaru Ford.
On the receiving end, Travis O’Deane carried The Marina for 18 points. Matt Lafland had 13, and Joe Kerlin-Smith scored 10.
The women’s basketball league started Monday with two games. The first was a close call, with team Twilight inching by Karina’s Team, 38-37.
Denise Shanti and Laura Wilsie each tallied 10 points for Twilight, while Heidi Bohn scored eight.
Leading Karina’s Team was Sam Bernard, who scored a total 14 points (including four 2’s inside the paint), Jenna Richards (6 points), and Meghan McLaughlin with 5.
Anna Lashway led Houghton Sanitary Service in game 2, outplaying Chroma, 36-33. Brittany Fry scored eight points, and teammates Annie Holiday (6) and Aleigh Pamer (4) chipped in for the cause.
Mary Symonds splashed in 10 points for Chroma, and she was assisted on offense by manager Ann Stanley, who added seven, and Sarah McDougle, who finished with 5 points.
