HINSDALE, N.H. - The Pacers varsity boys basketball team play their opening game tonight against Wilton-Lyndeborough at Robin Beauregard Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
Hinsdale will attempt to improve upon last year’s record (3-13), but it will probably be a "rebuilding year" according to the team’s coach, Brad Venice.
"We graduated six seniors including our top five scorers so we’re inexperienced this year, and we only have two players returning," he said.
Those returning are Seniors Andrew O’Keefe and Tanner Nichols, and the team will be looking to them on the court for direction, especially early in the season.
The offense will mostly be provided by O’Keefe as well as Matt Boggio, "a slashing guard who has good touch from the outside," noted Venice.
Inside, the Nichols brothers Tanner and Hunter will do much of the scoring and dirty work underneath, while Tyler Lachenal, Evan Dunkley and Christian Lugtu will provide some offensive depth off the bench as well.
On defense, the Pacers will count on Michael Stone and his intensity. "He’ll provide the energy we need on that end," said Venice. "And look out for the Nichols and O’Keefe, who will be blocking out and grabbing rebounds underneath."
Venice said the team’s goal this year is to blend their experience and talented young players to get back to the playoffs and possibly host a playoff game.
