BRATTLEBORO -- The Colonels varsity girls hockey team will play their season opener against Burr & Burton on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at Nelson Withington Rink.
Team captains Maddie Rollins, Lou Lou Terwilliger, and Rebecca Potter (all Seniors) will lead a relatively new team this season after losing half of their 2011-2012 team to graduation.
"We’ve got a hard working team this year," said coach Linda Burke. "Fourteen of our 23 players are new to the team and more than half of them are new to hockey. This could be considered a rebuilding season for us, but expect to see a team that plays with heart and determination."
The Colonels have a lot of depth with their defensive core of Rollins, Potter, and Madison Doucette. They will be joined on defense by Zameica Wright.
The goaltending tandem of Lou Lou Terwilliger and Alex Fellows will likely be one of the strongest in the league. Brattleboro is coming off a 1.80 goals against average from last season.
"With our inexperience, they will see a lot of pucks this season," said Burke. "On offense, we will be looking to returning forwards Amber Bessette, Grace Willingham, Meyru Bhanti, and Karen Koes to score some goals for us."
With respect to new players, coach Burke said she’s so far been impressed with Kia Bailey-de Bruijn, Kellie Schiller, Greta Pellerin, and Jessie Falk, just to name a few.
