BRATTLEBORO -- The BHA Mite North team played two great games over the weekend.
On Saturday against Westfield the team got a strong goaltending effort from Alex Palomba, who was helped on the defensive end by Jack Rockefeller and Leo Bodett. The offense was led by Will Taggard and his four assists.
On Sunday against the PV Lightning, Darek Harvey stood tall between the pipes against the strong shooters from the Lightning. Lauren Carpenter was very strong clearing the defensive end and the offense was led by Jack Pattison with three goals and two assists.
The BHA Bantams played a pair of taut games. Saturday they tied a tough Holy Name opponent 1-1, whom they had been unable to beat all year. The game-tying goal came from Daniel McMahon on a slap shot that the goalie tipped but couldn’t handle. Milou Rigollaud was solid in goal for Brattleboro.
At home, on Sunday, the Bantams gave up two short-handed goals in losing to PV Lightning 3-2. Both Brattleboro goals came from the stick of Brad Fellows, with two assists from Daniel McMahon, and one each by Kenny Olchowski and Ellinore Todd-Long.
In Springfield, Ma, the Squirts faced third place Westfield, and were down 2-0 after the first period, until Andrew Peloso scored with an assist from Ethan Young at the beginning of the second period to answer back. But Westfield answered back with one of their own. Gabe Heiden scored with an assist from Ethan Young next, but Westfield again found the back of the net putting the score at 4-2 going into the third period.
Westfield scored two more in the third, but Brattleboro fought back with a vengeance, scoring four straight goals in the same period, with scoring from Alex Hudon, assisted
by Nathan Powers, Andrew Peloso, unassisted, and Tyler Higley, unassisted.
With one minute left on the game clock, and a face-off in the Westfield end, Goalie Austin Wood was pulled and an extra skater was put out on the ice. Townshend native Andrew Peloso scored the tying goal, assisted by Nathan Powers with 25 seconds left in the game. The final score was 6-6.
On Sunday, the Squirts defeated Greenfield by a final score of 4-1. Suzanna Cornman scored one goal, assisted by Andrew Peloso. Andrew Peloso also got his second hat trick of the weekend. Two goals were unassisted, and Nelly Tattersall assisted on the other.
Goalie Austin Wood once again was outstanding for both outings, with great defense and a good job from the forwards in back checking, contributed to the win.
The BHA Peewee team had a rare weekend of dual home games. On Saturday, they fell 6-0 to the undefeated and first place Holy Name Stars Green squad, but bounced back on Sunday to defeat the 8th place Amherst team 6-1, to remain in third place.
Sunday’s Brattleboro scorers were Dimitri Seger, with a pair of goals, Ryan Roof and Gavin Flynn, who each tallied unassisted goals, and Jacob Bailey, who scored on the assist by Jakob Curtiss and Max Albright. Dylan Reilly and Cameron King each drew assists on Dimitri Seger’s goals. The victory was especially sweet as it brought to an end the winless streak that dates back to Dec. 9, 2012.
