BRATTLEBORO -- The Amherst, Mass. varsity baseball team erupted for five runs in the first frame and went on to beat Brattleboro, 16-5, on Wednesday at Tenney Field.

The Colonels did pull to within two runs (7-5) by the third inning, but a big rally by Amherst in the fourth put the game out of reach.

Danny Richardson pitched well in relief for BUHS, according to coach David Zolnoski. The hosts were limited to just two hits, including one each by Chris McAuliffe and Tyler Higley.

The 1-3 Colonels will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. versus Fair Haven and being followed by a 2 p.m. game at Mill River.
