BRATTLEBORO -- The Pirates finished up their Brattleboro Little League baseball season with a perfect 15-0 record.
Rachael Rooney’s recent walk-off RBI single gave the Pirates a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox, after Elliot Bauer drew a walk and Harrison Kerber singled. Kyle Derosia went 3-for-3 to lead the winners offensively, while Scott Pearlberg was excellent on the hill for the Sox.
Adam Newton struck out 13 in relief, as the Pirates pounded the Sox 10-2 in their second meeting. Hailey Derosia was the gold glover for the Pirates, which got two hits from Kris Carroll and a 3-for-3 day from Tyler Millerick. Jack Price went 3-for-3 for the Red Sox and Seamus Buckley anchored the team’s defense.
And the Pirates capped it all off with a 12-1 rout of the Royals. Cyr Solari went 5-for-5 with a homer and Carter Weeks added a sharp single, while Alex Kendall and Jacob Gouger had solid all-around games.
BRATTLEBORO -- Post 5 is off to a 2-3 start, including a 5-4 victory over Bennington and a 7-6 decision versus Lake Region. Brattleboro has suffered losses to Bellows Falls, Lake Region and a team from West Virginia.
Jimmy Mills is 2-0 on the hill. Veterans Evan Parro, Kevin Paciulli and Gerard Roberge have been producing offensively, while newcomers Chris Lasch and Cam Wright have also been delivering.
Post 5, which has been without injured starters Chris McAuliffe and Jeff Kerylow, will host Hartford on Thursday at 5:30 p.
Bellows Falls Post 37, which had its Tuesday game versus Bennington postponed due to the weather, will play at Lake Region on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Bob Lockerby’s team will host doubleheaders against Montreal on Saturday and Sunday, with each of them beginning at noon.
In Babe Ruth action, the Eagles are atop the standings at 4-0. They will play tonight and on Thursday at the Dummerston School, versus league foes Pepsi and DMI.
BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Outing Club still has summer and fall paddle trips on the schedule.
North Hartland Lake, in Hartford, is the first summer outing, on Sunday, July 7. This is a long, narrow reservoir, with steep forested hillsides at the east end of Quechee Gorge. On Saturday, Sept. 7, there will be an all-day trip to Plum Island, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and Sandy Point State Reservation, Mass. Gale Meadows Pond, in Windhall, follows, on Wednesday, Sept. 11. It is also a Connecticut River Birding Trail Site, Southern Section.
