NASHUA, N.H. -- Bishop Guertin opened up its inaugural season in NHIAA Division 1 against a familiar opponent.

Facing the Warriors of Winnacunnet High School in a rematch of last season's Division 2 semifinal playoff game, the Cardinals went down 23-22 in a nail-biting contest Saturday night.
Chris Fox's 50-yard field goal attempt fell five yards short of the uprights as time expired, and Winnacunnet was able to escape Stellos Stadium with a win.
BG's Kelvin Rivera rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown and Mike Devereaux had two touchdowns for the Cardinals (0-1).
"A lot of little things really killed us tonight," said Guertin head coach Travis Cote, who enters his third year at the helm for the Cardinals.
The win was there for Guertin to take, but poor pass coverage and a costly fourth-quarter turnover in the red zone spelled doom for the Cards.
Winnacunnet took advantage of BG's secondary, with five receptions of 20 yards or more.
"First game of the year, there wasn't really anything we didn't see coming. Coaching staff prepared us well," said Devereaux, who also picked off Winnacunnet's quarterback in the fourth quarter.
The senior captain had 83 yards receiving and 58 yards on the ground to go with the interception and two touchdowns, one on a 73-yard pass play from Tom Hurley.
