Gov. Maggie Hassan and legislative leaders have been trying to negotiate a compromise to present to lawmakers to consider during the two-week session. A hearing on legislation to expand Medicaid is scheduled for Nov. 12 with a vote scheduled Nov. 21. If no compromise is reached before Thursday, lawmakers may wind up weighing more than one proposal.
Hassan and the Democratic-led House supported expanding the program on Jan. 1 as part of the federal health care overhaul law. A special commission is recommending using private insurance for adults who already have it. The Republican-led Senate would like to use more private insurance than the commission recommends.
