BENNINGTON -- The Brattleboro girls and boys track teams placed first and second respectively at Friday's six-team meets at MAU.
The BUHS girls racked up 140 points and were followed by: MAU (130), Rutland (78), Fair Haven (64), Burr and Burton (48) and Arlington (28).
Eve Pomazi hit the board three times to pace the purple and white, including gold in the 400, silver in the 200 and bronze in the 100. Nevada Powers won the 3,000 and took third in the 400; Kira Boucher placed first in the triple jump; Danielle Wood was the runnerup in the 100 hurdles; Catey Yost was second in the 400; Asha Dimatteo-LePage finished third in the shot put; and Becca Freeman earned bronze in the 3,000. Freeman and Boucher achieved their first qualifying marks for the New England Qualifier at Essex, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 31.
The host Patriots prevailed in the boys meet with 174 points. Brattleboro was next with 110 points, Rutland placed third with 101 points, Fair Haven (59) finished fourth, Arlington (13) placed fifth, and Burr and Burton (9) ended up in sixth.
Brattleboro's Jon Burdo won the 300 hurdles and took second in the 110 hurdles, while teammate Jack Ochukpue placed third in both of those events. Miles Goldenbird finished first in the discus with a heave of 104-3, and the Colonels got bronze medals from: Dan Burdo (400), Tyler Clement (200), Jonah Goldenbird (triple jump), and Liam Reynolds (high jump).
WESTMINSTER -- Colby Howe and Chris Armstrong took turns on the mound for the Terriers in Saturday's game that was over in just 90 minutes. They combined for two walks and four strikeouts.
"It was just a well-played game that went by really fast," said Bellows Falls coach Bob Lockerby.
Howe went 2-for-3 at the plate and was the only player with multiple hits. Andy Kenaush picked up the victory for the visiting Raiders.
BRATTLEBORO -- Cadance Gilbert, Katherine Innis, Bob Parks and Dan Barile were the winners at Wednesday's Fun Run on Upper Dummerston Road. Tri-County Softball League
HINSDALE, N.H. -- The Tri-County Softball League, which is for grades 4-6, goes from late April to early June. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday, with the idea being to teach the players the game of softball, teamwork, hard work and the spirit of competition in a positive way. In recent action, Brattleboro defeated Vernon 9-4, Hinsdale White downed Erving 12-7, and Northfield outscored Hinsdale Blue 16-5.
Soccer Official Clinics
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Frank Martel, a high school and college soccer official, will be holding incoming soccer official clinics on Aug. 22 from noon to 7 p.m. and Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Williamstown High School.
The clinic involves classroom work for 4-5 hours, officiating a high school scrimmage and completing an online open book rules test two days after the clinic. Bring clothes to officiate in. Martel will send you the rule book when you register for the clinic.
This clinic will enable you to become a member of Vermont Soccer Officials Association, which serves Vermont high school varsity and JV soccer. It is also for improving knowledge of rules and positioning if you officiate elementary, middle or JV level soccer. Only the twoperson system of officiating will be presented.
