BRATTLEBORO -- Bennington defeated Brattleboro, 4-1, in the 12-year-old Little League best-ofseven district championship series.
"Brattleboro fought hard to the end and never gave up. Bennington just beat us with their long ball - averaging three home runs per game in the series," said Brattleboro coach Chris Millerick. "I'm very proud of the kids and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to coach them."
Brattleboro rallied back to win the opener, 10-9. Kris Carroll and Charlie Galanes each had two hits and drove in a couple of runs for the winners, who trailed 8-3 after three innings of play. Adam Newton went the distance for the win.
And then Bennington won four games in a row to take the series, starting with a 14-4 thrashing in Game 2.
Brattleboro's Tyler Millerick, Galanes and Newton all went 2for-3 in Thursday's 9-6 loss. Bennington scored all nine of its runs in the second frame, thanks to a number of physical and mental errors by their rivals.
Hailey Derosia, Kris Carroll, Millerick, Galanes and Newton all had a pair of hits in the finale - a 19-6 victory by Bennington on Saturday. Both of Newton's hits were homers, Derosia and Anthony Palomba were Brattleboro's gold glovers, and Derosia also held Bennington to two runs in three innings of work on the bump.
