Bellows Falls' DJ Snide pins Mill River's Carter Smith in the 195 class during Wednesday's varsity wrestling match at Bellows Fall Union High School.

WESTMINSTER >> The Bellows Falls varsity wrestling team won two of the five contested matches on Wednesday evening at Holland Gymnasium and outscored visiting Mill River, 23-18.

The competition began at 145 pounds, where Charles Dolloph of Bellows Falls went up against Zach Allen of Mill River. Allen proved to be too much to handle and picked up the pin in the first period, giving Mill River a 6-0 lead.

Brendan Kendall would receive six forfeit points for BF at 152 pounds, tying the team score at 6-6.

BF's Julian Christiansen then wrestled Caleb Elliot of Mill River at 170 pounds. The Mill River grappler worked Christiansen to the ground with a headlock to earn the takedown, but ended up out of bounds. On the restart, Christiansen would be cradled and pinned, ending the match in the first period and putting Mill River back in the lead at 12-6.

Junior captain DJ Snide (195) then faced Carter Smith of Mill River. Snide took his opponent to the mat and secured two different sets of exposure points for a 6-0 lead in the opening stanza. In the second period, Snide chose bottom to start and exploded to his feet off the whistle, and just as quickly he would take his opponent back down to increase his lead to nine. After two more exposure turns, this time getting the full 5-second count on both, Snide would end the match with a 15-0 tech-fall which scored five points for the hosts.

With the team score now at 12-11 in favor of Mill River, Jake Lober would earn a forfeit at 220 pounds to put the Terriers ahead to stay.

BF junior Bryce Smith wrestled next for the Terriers at 132 pounds. Smith's physical style of wrestling was the difference and he would secure the pin in the first period. That put Bellows Falls up 23-12 and sealed the victory.

The last official match of the evening pitted BF freshman Austin Taylor against Nichole Greneir of Mill River. After some back and forth scrambling, the Mill River wrestler would come out on top and secure a first-period pin.

Bellows Falls will travel to Weare, N.H. on Saturday to compete in the General John Starks Dual Tournament.
