WHITINGHAM — The Twin Valley varsity boys basketball team is off to a 5-4 start and is currently ranked seventh in Division 3.

The team's early victories have come against Rivendell, Otter Valley, Green Mountain, Black River and Long Trail. And coach Chris Brown's squad will be shooting for win No. 6 when hosting West Rutland (6-3) today at 2:30 p.m.

Senior forward DJ Lazelle is averaging a team-high 14.1 points and also 8.3 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. Skyler Boyd is averaging 10.9 points and a team-best 9.7 boards, Justin Hicks leads TV in assists at 4.4 per contest, and the Whitingham squad has also gotten huge contributions from Kyle Murdock (8.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG) and Brett Swanson (9.8 PPG).

Hicks, who starred for the school's state runner-up soccer team in the fall, had 22 points and eight steals during Twin Valley's recent rout of Long Trail. And Swanson racked up 17 points in that game.

Prior to that, Lazelle led the way with 21 points and 11 boards in an 87-29 triumph over Black River. Swanson contributed with a team-high 22 points.
