BURLINGTON >> An unbelievable run by the Brattleboro Union High School varsity girls basketball team, which was the first 14 seed ever to reach a Final 4, ended with a 52-26 loss to No. 10 BFA-St. Albans in Tuesday night's Division 1 semifinal at UVM's Patrick Gymnasium.
Kelly Laggis scored a game-high 13 points for the 12-11 Comets, who went on a 15-0 surge in the first quarter and never looked back. BFA-St. Albans will face the CVU-Burlington winner in Tuesday's state championship game.
Devin Millerick, who was battling a stomach bug, and Shenise Taliaferro each scored five points to lead the purple and white. Jaida Henry and Gabby Carpenter added four points apiece.
The Colonels, who were 2-10 at one time, finished their season with a 10-13 record. In the first two rounds of the D-1 Tournament, they shocked No. 3 Essex 45-43 in overtime and then upset No. 6 Saint Johnsbury 50-46 in a quarterfinal.
