RIPTON >> After Day 1 of the Vermont State Nordic Skiing Championships at Rikert, the Brattleboro Union High School boys are comfortably in third place and the BUHS girls are sitting fifth in Division 1. The classic portion will be held today.

"The boys were third after the morning's individual race, and held their position in the relay. The girls were sixth after the morning's individual race, and due to a strong performance in the relay advanced to fifth in D-1," said Colonels coach Amanda Dixon. "It was really exciting to see Brattleboro on the podium again."

Mount Mansfield (21:51.3) and CVU finished first and second respectively in the freestyle relay, and Mount Mansfield's Greg Burt was the 5K Freestyle race winner in 11:32.1. North Country (26:05.1) struck gold in the D-1 girls relay, while North Country's Callie Young took the 5K Freestyle race in 13:40.5.
