BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro and Bellows Falls varsity football teams will each open up on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., versus Hartford and Springfield respectively.

In his first season as head coach, Chad Pacheco used a "Win the Day" motto last fall and his Colonels (4-5) qualified for the Division 1 playoffs for the first time in 10 years. The team's highlight was a come-from-behind victory over rival MAU, and then came an inadvertant whistle that cost them a wild card victory over CVU.

The purple and white will host four regular-season games, with the prized Elwell Trophy at stake on Oct. 21 when they take on the Patriots.

Bellows Falls, which went 8-1 last season, will host three of its first four games — facing rival Springfield, North Country and Mount Mansfield in those contests.

And on Oct. 21, the Terriers will welcome Burr and Burton. The last time those teams faced off was in the Division 2 title tilt, when the Bulldogs prevailed 28-7.
