TOWNSHEND >> Mackenzie Boyle belted a grand slam to power the Leland & Gray softball team to a 15-0 rout of Mill River in a five-inning game on Monday.
The Rebels broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the fourth frame and then tacked on seven more in the fifth, highlighted by Boyle's bomb. Keltsey Rushton (10 K's, 2 BB, 2 hits) went five innings for the victory.
Caroline Tietz finished with four hits and three runs driven in for the winners. Erin Cutts followed with three hits and a couple of RBI's, Boyle had a pair of hits and batted in five, and Rachel Borgesen chipped in with two hits and three runs scored.
Leland & Gray (11-2) will welcome Woodstock today at 4:30 p.m.
WILMINGTON >> Ethan Fox hit a two-run homer and Chris Robinson went 2 for 3 to help Twin Valley to an 8-7 victory over Poultney.
"Both teams played a great game. We were aggressive at the plate and did a great job of putting the ball in play, especially giving ourselves up to move runners over. It was probably the best job we have done all season," said Wildcats coach Brian Monroe.
Kyle Murdock allowed just two hits in 4.1 innings of work for Twin Valley, which improved to 6-7 and will play at Poultney today.
BRATTLEBORO >> Caden Wood ripped a three-run homer to straightaway center field as part of a 2 for 3 night and the Cardinals outscored the Reds, 11-6. Aaron Slade hit a triple, Tristan Evans scored three runs and Aden McMahon added two hits for the Redbirds. Dallin Watchtelhausen hit a late RBI double to ice the game for the Cardinals. The Reds got a great outing from Jonathan Cavanagh who threw four innings and struck out three. Alex Palomba had two base knocks and Javvan Patterson recorded his first Little League hit.
