TOWNSHEND >> The No. 4 Leland & Gray softball team racked up 18 hits in Tuesday's Division 3 playdown game, including a team-high three from catcher Jessie Stockwell, and routed No. 13 Twin Valley 23-1 in a five-inning contest.
Jordan Gouger, Rachel Borgesen, Sierra Fillion and Sarah Anderson all finished with two hits for the winners. Gouger led the way with three runs batted in, while Jessica Madore, Stockwell and Anderson drove in two runs each.
"They were ready to hit and I thought we ran the bases well," said Leland & Gray coach Tammy Claussen, whose team improved to 14-3 and will host No. 5 Enosburg in Friday's quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m.
Keltsey Rushton fanned 10, walked zero and gave up just one hit in four innings of work. Olivia Brown (2 K's, 2 hits) pitched in relief.
Enosburg earned a matchup with the Rebels by beating No. 12 Windsor 12-2 on Tuesday. Emilee Bose fanned 13 and scattered four hits to get the win. Annie Neuberger and Courtney Tatro had two hits apiece for the Hornets, and Rylee Combs chipped in with an inside-the-park homer.
Top-seeded Oxbow earned a first-round bye. In Tuesday's other playdown games, No. 2 Richford routed Rivendell 16-0, No. 6 Green Mountain knocked out Northfield 23-4, No. 7 Williamstown handled Hazen 18-3, and No. 9 Peoples upset Thetford 19-16.
