BRATTLEBORO >> Hailey Derosia had four hits, including a pair of doubles and a homer, and drove in six runs to power the No. 6 Brattleboro softball team to a convincing 18-5 victory over 11th-seeded South Burlington in Tuesday's Division 1 playdown game at Sawyer Field.
"Derosia had a great day. She made such solid contact," said BUHS coach Kelly Markol. "She doesn't play like a freshman. She's an athletic kid and just a great softball player. She's also hard-working."
Devin Millerick, Hannah Wilson, Lauren McKenney and Jocelyn Aither all followed with three hits. Jamie Mahoney, Emmalee Waite and Mariah Powers chipped in with two hits each.
"We hit the ball hard. It was nice to see kids scatter hits throughout the lineup," added coach Markol.
The 13-4 Colonels, who took a 9-2 lead in the first two innings, will play at Middlebury in Friday's quarterfinal.
The No. 3 Tigers (15-2) defeated 14th-ranked CVU 9-1 on Tuesday. Darcy Staats and Bridget Audet each went 2 for 4, combining for nine runs batted in. Payton Buxton (11 K's) picked up the win in the circle.
