Caden Wood and the Brattleboro Little League All Stars will face Connecticut in a losers' bracket showdown today at 1 p.m. in Bristol, Conn.

BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro's 12-year-old Little League All Stars haven't lost two baseball games in a row yet this season, meaning the Vermont State Champions are due for a huge effort in the next round of the regional tournament.

After losing to Maine 8-4 in their opener, manager Mike Bingham's team will take on Fairfield, Conn. in a losers' bracket contest today at 1 p.m. on Breen Field in Bristol, Conn.

Brattleboro is now 7-3 overall, having bounced back from district series losses to Bennington with victories in games three and five. Caden Wood was the man in both of those answers, with a grand slam in each.

Can the left-handed slugger, who just had three hits against Scarborough, deliver again?

Clean-up hitter Zinabu McNeice will be looking to stay hot after stinging a pair of two-run singles on Sunday. Second baseman Jack Pattison, third baseman Elias Gradinger, shortstop Alex Bingham and super sub Alex Carpenter all contributed with one hit.

Fairfield, which reached the Little League World Series in 2010 and 2012, lost to New Hampshire 7-1 on Sunday evening. Lead-off hitter Ben Gaffney went 2 for 3, while Michael Iannazzo and Matt Vivona each hit safely.

The Connecticut team had previously defeated Coginchaug 6-3 in their state championship game. Matt Sawyer hit a three-run homer and Martin Merturi added a two-run single, Iannazzo went four innings for the victory, and Sawyer struck out all six batters that he faced in relief.
