Before a student can participate in athletics, the following pre-participation requirements must be completed:
1. Medical Examination — The state of Vermont requires a physical exam be completed every two years for students participating in interscholastic athletics. BUHS requires that each student-athlete has proof of this examination and medical clearance from a physician before participating in the athletic program for the first time. The physical exam is at the expense of the individual and the completed form will be kept on file by the school athletic trainer. The Well Exam is preferred.
2. Insurance — All participants must have accident/health insurance before participating in tryouts, practices or competitions. BUHS does not purchase insurance for its student-athletes, but if the student is not covered under a family policy, student insurance can be purchased through the school for a nominal fee.
3. Athletic Code of Conduct and Participation Contract — the Code of Conduct/Consent Form must be completed and signed by the student and his/her parents or guardians before participating in tryouts, practices or competition.
4. Concussion Information/Awareness — the state requires that all participants and guardians are aware of concussion signs and symptoms along with the BUHS Return to Play policy.
