BRATTLEBORO >> One week after they gave up 423 total rushing yards in a 41-3 loss to Hartford in the season opener, Brattleboro's varsity football team will be asked to defend against a talented quarterback.
Senior Collin Urie was 13-of-19 passing for 192 yards and three scores when Saint Johnsbury started off with a 41-7 rout of South Burlington. Jasper Rankin, Brodie Talbot and Shane Alercio all caught a TD pass in that one.
The 0-1 Colonels will host the 1-0 Hilltoppers tonight at 7 on Natowich Field at BUHS.
Brattleboro, which went 4-5 and made the playoffs in Chad Pacheco's first year as head coach, was intercepted four times by the Hurricanes in Week 1. A Jack Price field goal accounted for the purple and white's only points.
In another game this evening, Bellows Falls will be looking to go to 2-0 when it plays at Mount Abe (0-1) at 7.
Behind the powerful offensive line of Reno Tuttle, Nick Tuttle, Brady Illingworth, DJ Snide and Brian Green, the Terriers outgained rival Springfield 372-41 in the first half. Jahyde Bullard finished with 141 yards on seven carries, fullback Jacob Lober entered the house three times, and signal-caller Caleb Lisai completed five of six passes for 82 yards and a score.
Mount Abe is coming off of a 49-16 loss to Burlington, thanks to five touchdowns by running back Kevin Garrison. The Eagles got a 75-yard kick return from Devon Kimball and a 51-yard TD run by Coleman Russell.
