BRATTLEBORO >> Hinsdale cross-country runner Maggie St. John received 69 votes to earn Brattleboro Reformer Athlete of the Week honors for Oct. 2-8.
St. John finished third overall in the varsity girls race during a meet against Conant and Fall Mountain that took place at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H. She has been in the top five in five out of six races this season, including a victory in the Hillcat Invite on Friday.
Her prize is two free passes to Brattleboro Bowl for a night of Cosmic Bowling, which is held on Friday and Saturday evenings from 9-11.
"Besides being talented, she is a joy to coach. She hasn't missed a practice all season. She does what is asked, and she is always encouraging her teammates. She gets strong grades in the classroom as well," said Pacers coach Glenn Hammett of St. John.

The Twin Valley varsity girls soccer player scored four goals during her team's 8-0 victory over Bellows Falls. She was one of six seniors honored that night for the 5-6-1 Wildcats.
She finished sixth overall in 20:05 to lead the Brattleboro varsity girls cross-country team to a silver medal at the Connecticut Valley Championship meet. Gallagher was going up against runners from New Hampshire schools such as Hanover, Monadnock, Kearsarge and host Keene.
The junior midfielder tallied twice during his team's 5-3 loss to Windsor. He fooled goalie Ryan "Sauce" Saucier on a penalty kick and later struck again in the second half.
