WATERBURY, VT. >> Vermont emergency officials are warning people to be prepared for what's expected to be the coldest weather of the season so far.

The National Weather Service says below zero wind chills in areas of Vermont Friday through Sunday with some areas possibly reaching a wind chill of 30 below zero or colder Saturday night.

People in Vermont are being reminded to dress in layers, ensure you have a sufficient heating fuel, recognize health risks, and take other safety measures as needed.

They remind that improper heating devices can lead to dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless gas that can cause flu-like illness or death.
