ST. JOHNSBURY, VT. >> The Vermont Supreme Court has upheld the sentencing of a Sutton man charged in the 2010 murder of a 78-year-old grandmother in an unrelated incident.
The Caledonian Record reports 34-year-old Keith Baird, a habitual offender, was sentenced to 12 1/2 to 17 1/2 years behind bars in March 2015 for violating an abuse prevention order.
Baird appealed the sentencing to Vermont's high court, arguing that his motion for acquittal should've been granted because the state failed to prove that he was served with a final relief from abuse order. He also alleged that he was denied due process during his RFA hearings.
A Supreme Court panel rejected Baird's appeal on June 9.
Baird remains in prison while awaiting trial in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Pat O'Hagan.
