MONTPELIER, VT. >> Vermont's highest court has heard appeal arguments in the case of a former Rutland attorney convicted in a 2013 hit-and-run crash that killed a 71-year-old woman.

The Rutland Herald reports that the state Supreme Court heard arguments on Tuesday regarding 56-year-old Christopher Sullivan's 2015 conviction and sentencing.

Sullivan was found guilty in March 2015 of DUI with death resulting and leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities say Sullivan was drunk when he struck 71-year-old Mary Jane Outslay, of Mendon, with his vehicle in April 2013. He was disbarred following the conviction.

Sullivan was sentenced in July of that year to 10 years in prison.

Among the claims in Sullivan's appeal is that the trial court allowed an allegedly unqualified doctor state that Sullivan's intoxication caused the crash.
