PORTLAND, VT. >> With Vermont's lack of laws requiring the inspection of amusement park rides causing concern, a state representative plans to introduce legislation that seeks to regulate rides.

The Burlington Free Press reports Rep. Richard Lawrence sponsored a bill in 2013 that would've required inspection, but the measure never made it out of the House Agriculture Committee.

After members of the Legislature tried to add further regulation into the bill, Lawrence stopped pushing for its passing. But the Lyndonville Republican says he will "certainly" introduce similar legislation later this year.

According to the Amusement Safety Organization, just three injuries related to amusement park rides were reported in Vermont between 2004 and 2012.

Lawrence says it isn't a matter of if an accident will happen, but when.
