12 Colonels qualify for CVC Finals


BRATTLEBORO -- A dozen Brattleboro Union High School track and field athletes qualified for the Connecticut Valley Conference Finals today at Fall Mountain.

Josh Parro led the way by winning the long jump at the Trials. Tyler Clement placed second in the 100 and 200, Miles Goldenbird was the runnerup in the discus, Dan Burdo took third in the 400 and high jump, and Nevada Powers earned silver in the high jump and bronze in the 3200.

Also qualifying for BUHS were: Declan King, Ryan Gilligan, Jonathon Burdo, John Lonardo, Danielle Wood, Gwen Harris and Catey Yost.


Twin Valley 11, W. Rutland 6

WILMINGTON -- Colin Lozito, Sam Molner and Cade Nesbitt all had a pair of hits to help the Twin Valley baseball team to an 11-6 victory over West Rutland on Thursday.

Dal Nesbitt (4 K's, 5 BB, 12 hits) picked up the win. He and Craig Green each hit safely.

The Wildcats improved to 6-4 with the victory.

Little League

BRATTLEBORO -- Trailing 12-9, the Pirates batted around in their last ups to defeat the Giants, 21-12. Kris Carroll and Tyler Millerick each had four hits for the winners, and Adam Newton went 3-for-4 -- all three had an inside-the-park home run. Nick Campbell pitched well and reached base five times for the G-men. Gold glover Brooke Barrows reached base four times.

Small Fry

BRATTLEBORO -- Makai Gardilcic and Jack Surrette were the defensive standouts for Dompier Electric, which defeated Dead River 12-9. Devin Speno drove in three runs with an inside-the-park homer and Carson Elliot played strong defense from the pitcher position for Dead River.

Cameron Cruz had the game-winning RBI and Sammy Henry had a solid all-around game as Cocoplum edged American Legion, 9-8. Jay Pierce and Nick Goddard did the damage for A.L.
