2 killed in 1-car crash on eastbound Thruway lanes in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. >> Authorities say two people have been killed in a crash on a stretch of the Thruway in Albany.

The state police Thruway detail says the crash occurred around 2 a.m. Friday in Interstate 90's eastbound lanes near Exit 24 on Albany's western outskirts. Troopers say a 1992 Honda Accord left the highway, hit a guardrail and then a sign post.

Police say the driver, 25-year-old Robert Frechette of Albany, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 26-year-old Kelsey Shagalski of Schenectady, died from her injuries after being taken to Albany Medical Center.

Two of the three eastbound lanes between Exit 25 and Exit 24 were closed for several hours as crash reconstruction investigators remained at the scene at the start of the morning commute. Both lanes reopened by 7:30 a.m.
