NECBL All-Star

BELLOWS FALLS >> Following an impressive first half of the year, Castleton University senior Michael LaBeau has been selected to the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game, as announced by the NECBL on Sunday.

LaBeau was one of nine pitchers selected from seven North Division teams and one of four players from his team, the Keene Swamp Bats to make the All-Star roster. Impressively, LaBeau is the only player from the 30-member All-Star team at a Division 3 school. Overall, the Bellows Falls graduate is the only Division III pitcher on either all-star team, and one of two non-Division I pitchers, along with Franklin Pierce All-American Tanner Bird.

This summer, LaBeau has helped the Swamp Bats stay atop the North Division standings as the team's closer. He is tied for second in the NECBL with six saves, while also boasting a 2-1 record in 18.1 innings. LaBeau has given up just two earned runs for a 0.98 ERA to go along with 21 strikeouts and just four walks in 14 appearances. He is the only player in the entire NECBL to appear in at least 11 contests and own an ERA under 1.00.

The All-Star game will be hosted by the Newport Gulls at historic Cardines Field on Sunday.

Nancy Gorham Lasante of Bellows Falls finished second in the low net category of the Vermont Senior Women's Golf Championship at Country Club of Barre. Sandra Towns of Orleans Country Club scored a 136 and was four shots better than Lasante.
