4 locals shine on court
BRATTLEBORO -- Four area basketball players played important roles at the college level during the 2013-14 season.
Candon Rusin, who was a star at Twin Valley High School, played in all 33 games as a senior at the University of Vermont. The 6-4 guard averaged 9.6 points per game, made 42 percent of his shots from beyond the arc, and was a 73 percent shooter from the charity stripe. His Catamounts wound up with a 22-11 record.
Twin Valley grads Scott Hayford and Devon Spirka also delivered on the court. Hayford averaged 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds for Nazareth College (19-8), while Spirka scored 12 points and dished out 3.2 assists per contest for the 11-15 Nichols College Bison.
And freshman Ashley Goddard, a Leland & Gray graduate, started all 26 games for the 7-19 Badgers of Johnson State College. She averaged 4.4 points and 4.7 rebounds.
