5 area women playing college hoops


BRATTLEBORO >> A handful of area females that starred at the high school level are now playing basketball for the college that they attend. This Fab Five includes Leland & Gray's former twin towers, a couple of Brattleboro Union High School teammates, and a 1,000-point scorer at Springfield High School.

Point Guard — Abbie Lesure

The 2015 BUHS graduate has scored two points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out seven assists during her freshman season at Castleton University. The 11-3 Spartans are currently on a three-game winning streak, including victories over Green Mountain, Colby-Sawyer, and New England College.

Shooting Guard — Chelsea McAllister

In her first year at Springfield College, the former Cosmo has scored 29 points — 11/35 from the floor, including 5/15 from downtown. She also has six rebounds and seven dimes for the Pride (10-6).

Small Forward — Alex Morrow

Known for using a pretty half-hook down low, the Leland & Gray grad has scored 11 points and hauled down nine rebounds during her junior season with Nichols College of Dudley, Mass. The 2-14 Bison will host Wentworth on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Power Forward — Ashley Goddard

A soccer, basketball and softball star during her Leland & Gray years, Goddard has started all 13 games during her junior season for Johnson State. She is averaging 8.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the 6-10 Badgers.

Center — Arianna Harrison

The former BUHS standout has been doing it all for the Norwich University women's basketball team. As a sophomore, she is averaging 12.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest for the 9-8 Cadets.
