5 nominated for Athlete of the Week
BRATTLEBORO — Tessa Gobbo, who grew up in Chesterfield, N.H., became this area's Summer Standout when she helped the US women's eight win a rowing gold in Rio last month.
It's now time to figure out who should be named this fall's first Reformer Athlete of the Week.
The following student-athletes have been nominated for their performances during the beginning of the season through Sept. 10, however write-ins are also welcome. You can vote by typing in your choice as a comment beneath this story at www.facebook.com/ReformerSports/. Please only vote once.
The Twin Valley sniper tallied twice during a 4-1 victory over Windsor on Hayford Field in Wilmington. He then had a hat trick when the Wildcats zipped Otter Valley, 3-0.
She scored seven minutes into overtime to give the Hinsdale varsity girls soccer team a 1-0 win over Pittsfield. Matuszewski also split the posts when the Pacers fell to Lin-Wood, 2-1, in their season debut.
In the first cross-country meet of the season, the Brattleboro speed demon won the 3.1-mile boys race in a time of 18:46. The three-team meet also consisted of runners from Bellows Falls and host Thetford.
The senior striker scored five goals to lead the Leland & Gray varsity girls soccer team to a 5-4 victory over MSJ in the season opener. She followed that up with the game-winner in overtime when the Rebels edged Twin Valley, 4-3.
He completed 5 of 6 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown when the Bellows Falls varsity football team trounced rival Springfield, 42-6, in the annual Trophy Game. The senior quarterback then threw for 139 yards and two scores as the Terriers topped Mount Abe, 39-12, in Week 2.
