6 area athletes had a memorable week

BRATTLEBORO — The late Stuart Scott probably screamed "boo-yah" from up above and Dick Vitale could only have described it as "awesome, baby" when Tony Martinez scored with three seconds left in overtime to give the Brattleboro varsity boys basketball team a thrilling 58-57 victory over Hartford up in White River Junction last Tuesday.

That was clearly this area's Most Memorable Moment from Jan. 17-23, but who would you vote for as our Player of the Week?

Skyler LeClair

Hinsdale's junior point guard poured in a team-high 19 points in her team's 44-33 loss to Monadnock and then scored 19 again in Friday's 36-21 rout of Concord Christian. She made four shots from downtown during the win.

Nick Morrow

Leland & Gray's senior forward turned heads with a pair of double-doubles. He went off for 21 points and 16 rebounds in a 55-34 win over Springfield and then finished with 24 points, 13 boards and four steals in the Rebels' 75-48 decision over Poultney.

Jake Lober

The Bellows Falls wrestler finished second in the 220-pound weight class during Saturday's tournament in Vergennes. The Terriers placed 15th out of 24 total teams.

Isaac Freitas-Eagan

He skied to a seventh-place finish, in a field of 97, to lead the Brattleboro Nordic team in Saturday's 5K season opener in Ripton. Freitas-Eagan was clocked in 21:23, while gold medalist Scott Mooney of Burr and Burton crossed the line in 20:32.

Kirra Courchesne

She ended up with five points, 10 rebounds and three blocks to help the Twin Valley girls basketball team to a 30-28 victory over Bellows Falls on Saturday. Prior to that, she led the Wildcats with a dozen points in a 53-21 trouncing of Poultney.
