63rd Shrine Bowl is Saturday
BRATTLEBORO >> Vermont will be looking to put an end to New Hampshire's 15-game winning streak when the two football teams meet in the annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl on Saturday at Castleton University at 5:30 p.m.
Kyle Gaudet was the star in the Granite Staters' 27-12 decision a year ago. He finished with five catches for 190 yards and three scores as "the 603" improved to 47-13-2 in the series.
Linebacker Aleks Harrison and defensive back Taylor King are both on this year's Vermont team after helping Brattleboro to its first postseason game in 10 years. Harrison made six tackles and King picked off two passes in the North/South contest in November.
Zach Streeter, who played quarterback and defensive back for the 9-2 Bellows Falls team which lost in the 2015 Division 2 championship game, will also play for the Green Mountain Boys.
On Tuesday, players and coaches had the opportunity to meet and interact with five Shrine Hospital patients at Media Day in Castleton. Each of the five patients, or a family member, presented their experiences with Shriners and described their individual treatment. Players from both Vermont and New Hampshire signed commemorative t-shirts, backpack bags and posters, and presented mini footballs, much to the delight of the patients.
Practices have been going well and both coaches commented on the excellent condition and fundamentals of football knowledge exhibited by many of the players. Players are getting the opportunity to play in different positions to best utilize their abilities.
NSN Sports will feature a live webcast of the game over the Internet for those unable to attend the game.
