7 Colonels earn All State honors

BRATTLEBORO >> After helping their team reach the playoffs for the first time in 10 years, seven Brattleboro Union High School varsity football players earned All State honors.

Cheick Diakite, who ran for five touchdowns against both South Burlington and Saint Johnsbury, was named a First Team running back. Evan Perkins, who had four catches for 51 yards in the team's heartbreaking loss to CVU in a wildcard game, was chosen as a First Team tight end. Taylor King and Aleks Harrison, a duo that helped the South blitz the North in the recent Senior Game, were named First Team defensive back and linebacker respectively.

King was also named a First Team kick returner and Second Team wide receiver. Conor Hiner (offensive lineman) and Tyler McKenney (linebacker) each made the All State Second Team while Seth Rhodes (defensive back) was given Honorable Mention.

"The Colonel family is very proud of these guys. They are hard-working kids, and this is all well deserved and just shows how our program is on the rise," said first-year BUHS head coach Chad Pacheco.

Brattleboro went 4-5, including victories over South Burlington, Saint Johnsbury, Colchester and rival MAU. In the purple and white's first playoff game in 10 years, it was an inadvertant whistle following a blocked field goal by CVU that robbed the Colonels of a win.
