Alberts art collection has a few available works
WEST BRATTLEBORO >> The mid-June gala and silent auction of works in the Beverly Alberts Art Collection was a very successful fundraiser for All Souls Church at the West Village Meeting House. The effort realized over $3,350 in winning bids for over forty works of art donated to the church by Alberts, and another $900 in door donations from gala attendees.
This "gift" of unrestricted funds was particularly helpful after a very expensive Vermont winter keeping the meeting house's famously long and steep driveway cleared and the building warm.
After the celebration, the remaining nine works of art not given attention by bidders were relegated to safekeeping in temporary storage. Most of these were part of a live auction that escaped viewer attention by its late schedule during the gala. Nearly all now hang in the church sanctuary and are available for direct purchase at modest prices at or below their modest opening auction bids from June.
Included are a Maisie Crowther watercolor, "West River"; a large pastel by Arrin Fancher, "Putney Waterfall"; and a photograph by Eric Slayton, "Study of Grasses." An abstract silverprint photo by Jason Whiton, a uniquely composed photo by Dorothy Kehaya, a landscape exhibit poster by Wolf Kahn, and a dance photography exhibit poster by Lotte Jacobi are also among the framed works for sale. The final item is a large, curving-edge, almost figurative piece of handmade paper by Sally Warren that has been sandwiched between two pieces of glass; this treatment offers some unusual display options.
The other gallery spaces at All Souls are currently filled with a Members & Friends show of work including paintings, photographs, weavings large and small, calligraphy, and a hooked rug. A few of these are offered for sale.
Gallery hours are generally 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 9 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon on worship Sundays, during other public events in the church, and on Christmas Eve before and after the 7:30 p.m. holiday service. Purchases of works in the Alberts Collection may be taken "off the wall" on Dec. 24 for holiday gift-giving.
All Souls Church is at 29 South St. across from the West Brattleboro village green along Rte. 9 west; go up the driveway across from the fire station to a large parking area by the meeting house.
