ALL SOULS HOSTS RICHARD MARSHALL RECEPTION ON SATURDAY
WEST BRATTLEBORO -- An exhibit of nearly two dozen large-format photographs by Richard Marshall, of New York City and Whitingham, has been showing in gallery spaces at All Souls Church since mid-October and comes down Sunday, Dec. 30.
Titled "Artists and Their Work," the show features Marshall’s portraits of seven artists paired with an image of their creative output, from metal sculpture to pottery to painting and more. Also included are a half-dozen portraits of working people and others Marshall was drawn to in his travels around New York City and Vermont.
Marshall was the founder and Director of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City, which he ran for 25 years. Upon his retirement in 2007, he began a second career in photography. He has published six books of photos, and his work has been used in promotional material internationally as well as in numerous publications in the U.S. In addition to earlier group shows at All Souls Church, Marshall’s photos have been exhibited at the Vermont Center for Photography and at the Readsboro Arts Festival.
The All Souls Arts Committee is hosting an artist’s reception this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. A refreshment table enhances this opportunity to speak with Marshall about his work.
During its final few days, the show is open to the public on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as during worship services and other events in the building, and by appointment. Call the church office at 802-254-9377 for more information.
