Amidons, Murphy/Tracy Family present concert

Thursday December 27, 2012

BRATTLEBORO -- Last Night Brattleboro presents the 11th annual concert of New England, Irish and French-Canadian dance music, fiddling from around the world and a feast of singing including singing for all, featuring Brattleboro’s Murphy/Tracy family (Keith, Becky, Aidan) and the Amidon Family (Peter, Mary Alice, Sam, Stefan and Zara Bode). The concert is Monday, Dec 31, at the First Baptist Church, 190 Main St., starting at 7 p.m.

Keith Murphy (guitar, mandolin, piano, foot percussion) and Becky Tracy (fiddle) will heat up the hall with intelligent and driving arrangements of dance tunes and traditional songs. Murphy and Tracy are founding members of the Nightingale trio which broke new ground in its sophisticated approach to traditional music. They are central forces in leading traditional music education at the Brattleboro Music Center. This year they are joined by their son, 11-year-old Aidan Murphy, on ukelele, fiddle and vocals, yet another great Brattleboro traditional musician/singer in the making.

The dynamic duo of Zara Bode and Stefan Amidon, aka "The Little Green Apples," has been touring with the Sweetback Sisters for several years.

Peter and Mary Alice have been freelance musicians and educators for 20 years, traveling across the country bringing their sweet harmonies and uplifting songs to children, music teachers and choral singers. They are devoted to traditional song, dance and storytelling, giving performances for children, workshops for children and for music teachers, and choral singing sessions for adults.

Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 6-14, free for 5 and under. Tickets are available only at the door on the night of the performance. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., for the 7 p.m. concert.
