Apple Gifford to lead services Sunday at First Congregational Church of Newfane

NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will welcome one of its church members as lay preacher to the pulpit on Sunday, Jan. 27. Apple Gifford’s sermon topic will be "Why Church?" with scripture readings from I Corinthians 12:12-31a and from Luke 4:14-21.

Congregational hymns will be "O Worship the King," "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "Christ You Call Us All to Service." The choir will sing "Sweet, Sweet Spirit" by Doris Akers with the prelude "Song of the Seraphim" by Clarence Kohlmann and postlude "Go Now in Peace" by Brian Wren and Thomas Tallis played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.

Sunday School will meet at 10:15 a.m. Next Sunday, the Rev. James Scott will be the guest preacher with the celebration of Holy Communion.

Events for the week ahead include Early Education Services’ Playgroup from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Men’s Coffee at 10 a.m., Handbell rehearsal at 5 p.m. and Choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
