Area students invited to join Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group on Sunday

BRATTLEBORO -- Worship at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. Scripture from Luke 3:15-17, 21-22 will be read by Mary Anne Deer. Pastor Cheryl Meachen’s sermon is entitled "Baptism by Fire."

Youth aged 11-15 are welcome to join the Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group gathering at the church at 3 p.m. to do activities and develop strategies to be Above the Influence of drugs, tobacco and alcohol. The group is led by Shannon Albritton of the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition. They will also prepare a meal of chicken and dumplings, salad and apple-berry crisp for the folks at the Overflow Shelter and then travel there to serve it and eat with the homeless. Their time together will conclude with a reflection on the day’s highs and lows. The participants may be picked up at the shelter at 7 p.m.
