In Brattleboro...

BUHS ALUMNI WEEKEND: Brattleboro Union High School Alumni Association will sponsor its Annual Golf Tournament at the Brattleboro Country Club on Saturday, June 15. Call Eric at the Pro Shop to register a team.

Also on Saturday, the Association will sponsor a dance at the VFW on Black Mountain Road from 8 p.m. to midnight with music provided by the Wyld Nightz Band. Admission will be payment of the $5 alumni dues.

On Thursday, the 4th of July, all alumni are invited to walk in the parade as members of the Alumni Association as this will be the last year that the Alumni Association Board will participate in the BHS/BUHS graduation.

NEWTOWN VIGIL: Gun Sense Vermont is sponsoring a family friendly vigil on the Brattleboro Common on Saturday, June 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the Newtown massacre. The theme of is "We Have Not Forgotten."

A bell will be tolled once for each Newtown child and for the estimated 80-plus children who have been killed by guns in the United States since that tragic event. Songs of hope will be sung, and there will be a renewed call for a conversation about the issue of gun safety in communities and at the Statehouse, so that appropriate action can be taken next legislative session.

Gun Sense Vermont was founded by Ann Braden, a Brattleboro mother of two young children, who was deeply moved by the pain and sorrow unleashed in Newtown. Membership represents over 100 different Vermont towns.

DISCOUNTED TICKETS: The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department has discounted tickets on sale to Six Flags of New England in Agawam Mass., The Great Escape/Splashwater Kingdom in Lake George, N.Y., and Bromley’s Sun Mountain Adventure Park.

The ticket price of $36 for Six Flags of New England offers access to all rides and attractions, including shows, street action, animations, plus the Island Kingdom Water Park, and park facilities. Children under 2 are free. The park is open daily and on-site parking is available for an additional fee. For more information about Six Flags or call 413-786-9300 ext. 0.

Tickets to Great Escape/Splashwater Kingdom are $35 for all ages. Children age 2 and under are free. The ticket offers all rides and water fun at the park. On-site parking passes are available for $15, a savings of $5. For more information about The Great Escape visit or call 518-792-3500.

In South Londonderry...

DOWNLOADING eMATERIALS: Virgil Fuller, one of the original coordinators of Listen Up! Vermont, will be at the South Londonderry Free Library on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. to show how to download books to various devices.

Bring an iPad, Nook, Kindle, laptop or other device to the library for instruction on how to read eBooks, listen to eAudiobooks or watch videos. Make sure that the device is fully charged. This workshop will cover accessing and downloading free library eBooks, eAudiobooks and videos.
