A show devoted to more than two decades of figure paintings by the artist. Olitski has shown extensively in New England and New York , as well as Toronto and South Florida. She is known for her vigorous and bold painting style. In this collection figures are rendered in large scale acrylic with mixed media on canvas. Many of her titles reference biblical characters, a suggestion that the forms convey a recognized humanity. Olitski brings a writer's sensibility to a muscular, modern vernacular. The paintings can be enjoyed for their narrative possibilities as well as their formal accompaniment in composition, gesture, and light.
Shown here, "For Jacob Leah Mourns Rachel" 1997
