Athens woman dies from car crash

ATHENS >> A local woman died after crashing her vehicle, according to police.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Brookline Road just south of the intersection of Miller Road in Athens at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

"Upon investigation, the vehicle was traveling south on Brookline Road at a high rate of speed," police wrote in a press release. "The vehicle drove off the roadway crashing into the embankment causing the vehicle to overturn."

Jennifer Stamp, 31, of Athens, was pronounced dead at the scene and was not transported to a hospital, police said.

Stamp was driving a 2014 Silver Subaru Impreza. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the press release. The vehicle is considered a total loss. The roads were considered dry and clear.

"At this time, this accident is still under investigation," police said.
