Authorities: Ferry connecting New York, Vermont suspended

GRAND ISLE, VT. >> Authorities say a ferry connecting New York and Vermont has been closed due to high winds and waves.

The Grand Isle County Sheriff's Department says Lake Champlain Transportation Co. suspended ferry service Monday evening. The ferry connects Grand Isle, Vermont and Plattsburgh, New York.

A news release says authorities are unsure how long the suspension will last.

Sheriff Ray Allen says the danger surrounds what conditions will come as a result of high winds and waves on Lake Champlain. Allen says they're concerned about waves coming onto the deck with large chunks of ice.

State police say weather conditions will be monitored.
