Bandish to compete in Rolex World Cup
BRATTLEBORO >> Bryce Bandish, a 2012 Brattleboro Union High School graduate, will be competing in the Rolex World Cup Big Boat Racing Series from Sept. 15-18 at the Saint Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco.
Bandish and Team Lightwave will race in the One Design class. Boats from all over the world will be racing in this premier event. Two races per class will be held each day.
After nine months of intense training and sailing in every imaginable condition, Bandish said that he's ready to go.
Bandish, who has been sailing on Lake Champlain, grew up in Dummerston before going to Clarkson University and now resides in San Jose, Calif.
WILMINGTON >> Gunnar Nilsen had a hat trick as Twin Valley blanked Otter Valley, 3-0, in a varsity game on Thursday evening.
"It was all Gunnar Nilsen. The 6-3 sophomore ran roughshod and has five goals in two matches," said Twin Valley coach Buddy Hayford.
Dylan Howe, Logan Park and Jack McHale all finished with one assist. Logan Boyd made two saves to earn the shutout.
The 2-0 Wildcats will play at Leland & Gray on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Youth Hockey Association kicks of its 40th season with Open Registration today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nelson Withington Skating Facility at Living Memorial Park. The annual used equipment Sale & Swap takes place at the same time and is a great way for families to save big money buying or renting gear. Members can trade in their old, small equipment for bigger sizes, or start fresh.
The BHA will offer programs for every age level from 3 and up. The popular and free Learn to Skate program has moved to 11 a.m. on Saturdays beginning Oct. 22. The Novices or "Mini-Mites" entry level hockey program for ages 6 and Under will begin at that same time. The Mites age division will feature two teams this year with lots of openings for new and experienced skaters ages 6-8. Squirts, ages 9-10, two Peewee squads, ages 11-12, the 12-13-year-old Bantams, a U12 girls and U14 girls programs along with the 14-18-year-old Midgets make plenty of openings for skaters of every age and skill level.

WESTMINSTER >> All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge on Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Kurn Hattin soccer field. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Entry forms will be available on the day of the event and parents will need to sign a permission form.
