Bellow Falls students attend 'Destination Imagination'

BELLOWS FALLS >> Students from the Bellows Falls Middle School's "Destination Imagination" team competed in the Vermont Destination Imagination State Tournament on March 19 at Burlington High School.

The team took a first place trophy in the Middle School "Improvisational: Close Encounters" Challenge. In preparation for this competition, students have been sharpening their critical thinking and team building skills for several months during after school hours. Destination Imagination is one of many enrichment opportunities available at BFMS through the A.I.M. Afterschool Program.

The Middle School's "DI" Team was one amongst the hundreds of hopefuls across Vermont that were vying for top placement at the State Tournament. Destination Imagination enables students to develop 21st century skills: creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and confidence that build on their unique strengths. Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process.

Cliff DesMarais, social studies teacher at Bellows Falls Middle School and Destination Imagination coach, is really proud of his students but "takes zero credit for this, as our amazing, creative and impromptu students are entirely responsible for the clever and hilarious improvisation that we witnessed this past Saturday."

Top scoring teams from the state tournament, which includes the BFMS group will advance to compete in May against top teams from 48 states and 15 countries at Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn.
