Bellows Falls police investigate arson

BELLOWS FALLS — Police are investigating an arson of an occupied building.

Bellows Fall Police and Fire departments responded to 45 Laurel Avenue for a report of a small fire that was extinguished by the property owner on Thursday, Feb. 4, at approximately 3:53 p.m.

"Investigation revealed that an unknown person(s) intentionally started a small fire on the third floor landing of the rear stairwell," police said. "The building was occupied at the time. The state fire marshal and the Vermont State Police arson investigator were called in to assist."

Residents were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and the fire was put out almost immediately, police said. Minor smoke and fire damage was reported by police. No one was injured.
