Bellows Falls Senior Center: Bingo, meals, 'knitted knockers' and John Denver on tap this month
The Senior Center now offers Bone Builders programs three times a week, and Basic Tai Chi for fall prevention every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; contact instructor Susan Williams at 802-376-5173 for more information.
Wednesday's art class is now visual arts, encompassing scrapbooking, adult coloring and stamping. Bring your own materials and have fun socializing, take advantage of our large tables to stretch out and enjoy your crafts. The Knit and Stitch group meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. They can help you finish a project, repair an item and even take on special projects such as baby blankets and gifts. The group is happy to donate "Knitted Knockers" to breast cancer survivors; stop by and ask for Betty for more information.
Nickle Bingo is held every Tuesday starting at 12:30 p.m. with 20 games played.
The Senior Center will be hosting an AARP Driver Safety Course on Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost for this course $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Call the center to reserve a spot.
The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center Cookbook is back at only $10 per cookbook. It makes a great gift and all proceeds benefit the center.
The Senior Center is hosting a trip to Jean's Playhouse in Lincoln, N.H., on Sep. 25 to see the matinee performance of "Dance Lessons in Six Weeks," in which an aging but formidable retiree hires an acerbic dance instructor to give her lessons in her condo in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla. The van leaves the center at 9:30 a.m. with lunch at noon and the show starting at 2 p.m. The cost of $45 includes transportation, lunch and the show.
On Oct. 13, the center is hosting a trip to the Flying Monkey in Plymouth, N.H. to see "Rocky Mountain High," a John Denver tribute show. The price is $107 and includes transportation, driver gratuity, lunch, show tax and meal gratuity. The special buffet luncheon at the Common Man Inn includes Common Man's Famous Yankee Pot Roast or Common Man Baked Lasagna.
The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center is open to local seniors ages 50 and over. The center does not charge membership fees and serves a hot lunch Monday through Friday starting at 11:30 a.m. Lunch includes entr e, starch, vegetable, roll and butter, desert and beverage for a suggested donation of $3.50 for seniors over 60, and a fixed price of $5 for those under 60.
Monday, Sept. 11: Baked cod with lemon wedge, rice with vegetables, broccoli florets wheat bread and peaches and cream.
Tuesday: September Birthday Cake Day. Yankee Pot Roast, baby carrots with dill, mashed potatoes, dinner roll and apple crisp with cream.
Wednesday: Cheddar broccoli quiche, green beans, wheat bread and watermelon.
Thursday: Spaghetti and meatballs, green leaf salad, italian bread and red grapes.
Friday: Chicken Marsala, mashed potatoes, peas and onions, wheat dinner roll and fruit cocktail.
