Bellows Falls stickers three-peat
"It's been amazing how far this program has come. Our seniors have won three state titles and the MVL title all four years. Their drive and focus has just been crazy," said BF coach Bethany Coursen. "Every player on the team just has that drive. They are fun to watch. They pass well and trust each other 110 percent."
Molly Kelly finished with two goals and one assist to lead the Terriers in the finals. Abbe Cravinho tallied twice, Madison Streeter and Dani Marchica each scored once, and Sophia Hyslop added a helper.
"Halle Dickerson had a great game on defense," commented coach Coursen. "Michelle Marchica, who is a link, did a great job."
Following a 14-0 regular season, the BF stickers defeated Middlebury, BBA and Spaulding by a combined 15-0 in the postseason. This was the program's third consecutive state championship and 40th win in a row dating back to 2015.
The Terriers had just a dozen varsity players and no JV team when posting a 5-8-3 record in 2011, but thanks to a K-6 youth program that now has 66 members — each one being taught the game by BF's varsity players— the team has went 86-8-3 since then.
"The last six or seven years, we have been very successful. There has been more desire, they have been wanting to go to camps, and we have had pick-up games over the summer," stated Coursen.
And anyone who has witnessed a Bellows Falls practice understands why the team is so difficult to defeat.
"Everyone knows that we work extremely hard," noted Coursen, who has been BF's varsity coach for 17 years. "We do conditioning every day — maybe a 25-minute run or some sprints. We work on stick skills, passing, the basics, and some 7-on-7."
